Advertising Disclosure
Current status
No advertising runs on this site to date. No ad network is connected, no ad script is loaded, no space is sold, and we receive no payment from any advertiser. No link on this site is an affiliate link.
This is the only paragraph on this page that would stop being true the day a banner is added. It's written here, in plain words, rather than hidden in a code comment: turning on an ad will mean rewriting this paragraph, in the same motion.
How advertising would work if we added it
The rules below bind us as of today. They hold whether or not an ad is running, and that is exactly why they're written now. They follow the FTC Endorsement Guides (16 CFR Part 255), the FTC's .com Disclosures guidance and its Native Advertising guidance.
- Any sponsored content would be labeled as such, with a clear “Ad” or “Sponsored” label above the content in question, in the same typeface as the rest of the page.
- No ads inside a game area. Not on a board, not on a grid, not overlaid on a game in progress.
- No advertising cookies without explicit consent. Advertising cookies fall under the “marketing” category, which is off by default and would stay that way.
- Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control signals would be honored as a refusal of the “marketing” category, without you having to say it again.
- No ads disguised as game elements, no fake buttons, no window that mimics a system message.
- The privacy policy and the cookie policy would be updated the same day as the addition, not “soon”.
How the site is funded today
It isn't. There's no revenue, because there's almost no cost: a few static files hosted on a server. That's sustainable for a site of this size, and it's exactly why it is this size.
